Agreed. I hope the vuvuzela transcends South Africa and shows up in all future World Cups.

How can you be pro-vuvuzela! I can barely watch a game without turning without turning off the sound.

As someone I know said... "Vuvuzelas aka Killa Bees".

It's awesome. Every time I hear the World Cup come on a television, I start laughing at the hornet noise. After a minute it dissipates into the background, but then a little later I notice it's there again, and laugh again.

For some reason I can't pin down, it seems so quintessentially South African to me. I was only there for three months, but the vuvuzela seems to represent something about joy and freedom and cheerful disorder, demonstrated by everyone making lots of noise, and kind of annoying noise, but just for fun, because they can.

It's cool that they're being played by fans excited to be there, I'm all for excited, happy fans, still, the drone does knock out any of the fan chants and songs. It's less of a big deal since I'm watching on tv and not there at the stadiums, but if I were there I'd miss that. You can't properly heckle/praise if you aren't doing it song.

I'm pro-vuvuzela but anti-vuvuzelas. But I think you'd have to look pretty hard to find any instrument that could be played by thousands of individuals in an arena without becoming a (medically) deafening white noise.
