Last week DJ Sucio Smash celebrated his 7th anniversary of taking over the historic Thursday night slot from Bobbito and Stretch Armstrong. About 25 different emcees(!) passed through to honor the occasion with a verse or two, with exclusive new beats provided all night long by DJ Spinna, Illmind and 2 of the Akai Pros, Ment Plus and Sincere. I’ll be posting some of the highlights here.
I witnessed a lot of history at WKCR over the years (I was there the night Nas, Big L and the Fugees all came through), so it was very cool to sit in on another classic night of hip-hop, and confirm that Sucio & crew are still carrying the torch. You can hear the complete show, and past episodes, at squeezeradio.com. Salute to Evil Dee, Mr. Len and everyone else I saw up there.

that beat in the first video is fucking insane.
I gotta say something: YO…THIS IS MY SCIENCE! I LOVE HIP HOP!!! People that don’t rap….they don’t understand the SCIENCE behind a great set of bars. We just make “noise” to some people. A racist troll on YouTube called me “A nigger just making loud noise”. ..HA! I laugh….but people make fun of rappers yo…like JUST ANYBODY COULD DO IT YO!.
HELL NAW….this is high level poetic form…..pentameter pugilist….please respect our craft! This is a great example yo! Just my piece.
LOVE IT!!! Respect, Respect!

Yeah watching these clips, especially Rock and Pharoahe, I wonder how many people fully grasp the complexity of what they are doing here, the level of virtuosity that’s on display.
khal: yeah I think Spinna’s doing some of his best work ever since Sucio coaxed him out of hip-hop retirement. He has another new track with Sandman where the beat is just ridiculoso.
Homeboy Sandman was in a bless-ed seat, indeed….Speaking of the technical aspects, Steele never really gets credit for how great of a technician he is on beats. He’s always been one of the most precise and consistent lyricists to every do it. Great post!
damn yo…once Sadat got loose he started snappin! Wish he woulda kept goin, it sounded like he was just getting started. Would’ve been nice to hear Dres too, he’s one of my biggest influences on the mic. Cymarshall just wreaked bloody havoc.
brillant.
Give thanks,
Didn’t believe this type of craft was still being practiced.
